What Can I Do to Prepare My Pets for a Hurricane Evacuation in Miramar Beach?
9/19/2023 (Permalink)
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 96 percent of all major hurricane activity in Florida occurs during the months of August, September, and October. Sometimes people have to evacuate with little advanced warning, so it is always a good idea to review your emergency plans and make sure that your pets are included in the family’s evacuation plan. Our local Destin, Seaside, and Freeport teams offer these tips from the American Red Cross for assembling an emergency evacuation kit for your pet:
- Sturdy leashes and harnesses
- Food, drinking water, bowls, cat litter/pan, and a manual can opener
- Medications and copies of medical records
- A first aid kit
- Current photos of you with your pet(s) in case they get lost
- Information on feeding schedules, medical conditions, behavior problems, and the name and number of your veterinarian in case you have to foster or board your pets
- Pet beds and toys, if easily transportable
