Mold Growth from a Leaking Water Heater

The slow drip of the supply line from this water heater in Sea Grove eventually took its toll on a large amount of mold damage. The moisture provided the mold spores with the missing ingredient for proliferation. The drywall backing, some framing, and also some subfloor sheathing provided the food. Using safety equipment and procedures for wrapping and removing mold infested materials, we started the demolition. The second photo depicts the stripped out utility closet, ready for disinfecting before a rebuild would begin. We also fogged the crawl space because of the amount of moisture thereby reducing the chances of future mold colony growth in this area of the house. We applied a special coating to the interior of this closet before we closed it up with a new material; we installed green board.
